What is the Caregiver Stipend?

The caregiver stipend is a tax-free reimbursement offered through the AFC program to eligible caregivers who provide daily care for individuals who need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). This support is designed to compensate family members or non-family caregivers who take on the role of helping loved ones remain in a home environment.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the caregiver stipend, caregivers must:

  • Be providing care to someone who requires daily assistance with activities of daily living and / or instrumental activities of daily living.
  • Be either a family member (not a spouse or legal guardian of a minor) or a non-family caregiver.
  • Live in the same home as the person they are caring for.

How Much is the Stipend?

The monthly stipend varies based on the level of care needed. There are two tiers of care:

Level 1 Care – For individuals who need moderate assistance with daily tasks.

Level 2 Care – For those requiring significant assistance and supervision.

The reimbursement typically ranges from approximately $800 to $1,600 per month, depending on the level of care.

How to Get Started

Getting started is easy! Here's a quick overview of the process:

Eligibility Assessment: The first step is an evaluation to determine the level of care needed.

Care Plan Development: A personalized care plan is created, detailing the care and services required.
